Ireland tops global “ChickIndex” as priciest country in the world
Buying the same meal at a Nandos restaurant in the UK is 20% more than in the US ,with Britain the fourth priciest place in the world to scoff a ‘cheeky Nando’s’, according to new research from money-saving website Voucherbox.co.uk. The UK ranked in 4th place, costing £10.20 for a typical meal, whilst the US ranked as even cheaper at only £8.52 for the same order. Only Ireland, UAE and Qatar had higher prices than the UK.
At nearly three times the price of the cheapest offering worldwide, Nando’s in Ireland tops the global “ChickIndex”, which measured the cost of ordering a 1/4 chicken, two regular sides and a soft drink. The meal in Irish outlets of the high street favourite clocks in at £6.87 more expensive than a meal deal from bottom-of-the-table South Africa, where customers will be set back only a mouth-watering £3.88. The chain’s homeland was consistently the cheapest, with the 1/4 chicken meal 63p less that in Malaysia, the country with the closest meal cost.
Also included in the study are New Zealand (£9.85), Australia (£9.72) and India, where the same meal cost the equivalent of £7.17.
Voucherbox UK Country Manager Shane Forster stated, “With Nandos announcing their new menu this month, we thought it would be interesting to look at how prices differ depending on where you are in the world. We already knew that Nando’s is cheekiest meal on the high street, but customers might feel that they are taking the peri-peri as far as the differences in price are concerned.”
