How many of us shop around for beauty products to get the best prices and beauty deals? Well, we actually know the answer to this, and it’s 35%.

In a survey of over 1,000 female consumers in the UK, commissioned by Voucherbox, we delved into the wonders of women’s beauty product shopping habits.

Picking 20 products from Stylist’s (regularly updated) gallery of most popular beauty products, we then set to work to see how much consumers could save.

The top most popular beauty products

At the top of the most popular list, as revealed in the survey:

  • Vaseline Lip Therapy
  • Batiste Dry Shampoo
  • Bio Oil
  • Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap
  • Radox Uplift Shower Gel

Good old faithful Vaseline is worth picking up at Sainsbury’s or Amazon were it’s currently £1.50 over the Boots price of £1.95.

Batiste Dry Shampoo presents a great reason to shop around as it’s currently half the price at Amazon and Superdrug (£1.48), of Boots and Sainsbury’s (£2.99 and £3 respectively).

Bio Oil is an absolute steal at Amazon where it is currently £8.71 – that’s £6.28 cheaper than Boots and Superdrug.

Dove Beauty Cream Bar is the only product in the whole list that has consistent pricing and can be found at both Boots and Sainsbury’s for 80p.

Radox Feel Uplifted Shower Gel actually has the biggest price difference percentage wise with a current price increase of 167% if bought at Amazon over Superdrug.

What else did we discover about your beauty product shopping habits?

  • 50% of women buy their beauty products on a monthly basis, while 3% confess to a daily habit and 5% only shop for beauty essentials once a year
  • 23% of female consumers buy beauty products when there is an offer or promotion, 17% do so on impulse and 6% get their cards out as soon as they get paid
  • Of those who don’t price check their beauty products before making a purchase, 19% just can’t be bothered, 16% don’t think the price will vary much, while 13% feel they don’t have time to do so
  • The average spend on beauty products is £20 a month, 25% spend up to £10, 10% spend up to £30 and almost 5% spend over £50
  • When asked to prioritise brand over price, results came in at 7/10

While it isn’t always practical to shop around for every beauty product you buy, this research shows it is worth having a quick peek before purchasing your favourite beauty brands, as there’s clearly great savings to be made.
